The Minnesota Ignition Interlock Program has helped tens of thousands of Minnesota drivers regain driving privileges after a DWI.
Ignition Interlock is a breath testing device that prevents a vehicle from starting if a driver is above a State-determined level of alcohol. Installing this device, and being approved into the Program, allows drivers to return to legal driving status without having to sit out their revocation or cancellation period.
Smart Start MN is Minnesota's preferred provider of Ignition Interlock Services, and has been instrumental in the development of the Minnesota Ignition Interlock Program. Smart Start MN has a dedicated Minnesota staff that knows Minnesota Laws, Rules, and Procedures, and can answer all of your questions about all aspects of the Ignition Interlock Program, including all of the work-arounds and ways to expedite each client getting back on the road as fast as possible. Who Needs Ignition interlock?
Any Minnesota driver who received a DWI in Minnesota, and that DWI was either:
1) Their first DWI and their Breath/Blood/Urine Alcohol Level was at or above .16, or
2) Their Second DWI in 10 Years, or their Third DWI in their Lifetime, or
3) Any DWI offender who satisfied either 1 or 2 on a Previous Offense.
4) Any Out-of-State Driver who received a DWI in Minnesota, and needs to drive in Minnesota during their period of Revocation/Cancellation.

Who Qualifies for the Program?
Fortunately, almost everyone qualifies for this Program. However, the actual process to become an approved driver in the Interlock Program can be complicated.
